Who will be doing the party?

Unlike many others who pass bookings on to anybody who is available, please be assured that when you book RASCALS CHILDRENS DISCO you will get a proper professional children's DJ entertainer with either Russ or Malcolm.

When do I need to book the party? 

As soon as possible, being the most popular specialist children's disco in the area we are very busy, especially at weekends. We have to disappoint many parents, and schools, who don't give us enough notice. It is most important to check our availability before booking the venue. Generally bookings are taken three to six months in advance.  

Where is the best place to hold a child's party?    

A church hall, village hall, scout hut or community center. An ideal venue is best empty and self contained, the smaller the better. Do not book a large room or hall. Function rooms etc; are not good venues for a children's party. Please avoid party rooms upstairs or in basements. We do on occasions play at parent's homes, these are not ideal locations for various reasons.  If you are stuck for somewhere suitable, tell us your area and we will offer a few suggestions.

How many children can I Invite to the  party?  

Parents are under the assumption they must invite the whole class. An ideal number is around 20. If there are too many children it ceases to be a party and it is more like a school disco. We cannot do all the games and activities. However, being professional's we can cope with has many children has you wish! 

What age do you cater for?                                                                     

Four years to 12. Most younger children do not understand simple instructions, they are usually very shy and timid. We also cater for the adults at the appropriate occasions. For young children we recommend our bouncy castle with the disco.

Do you do Joint parties? 

Yes, this is a good way of keeping costs down, you can share expenses with  the other parent. However, it is important that the children know each other or they will be shy and embarrassed with strangers.   

When is the best time to hold the party?                                              

A weekday is an perfect time, it is less hectic for everybody, it will not clash with other parties and venues, We are more readily available, it can be at a time of your choosing. If a Saturday or Sunday ideally 12-2pm or 4-6pm. These times work around normal children's meal times lunch 1pm and tea 5pm. We also offer an evening party for older children. Variations in time, and additional hours, can be catered for at schools, weddings, christenings and communions subject to availability.  

What do you do at the party?                                                                       

There is a vast difference between what a 4 year old likes and a teenager. This is where a lot of the skill, in entertaining children, comes in. No two parties are the same, We assess the children up to see how they are reacting to the program of events, then adjust the format accordingly. This will be a combination of dancing, games, competitions and music to suit the age group. There is no set format every party is different. Unlike an adult disco DJ, who just stands and plays music with little or no chat, we are interactive with the kids, We do not play inappropriate, or music with explicit lyrics. We feature dance routines and give the children instruction on the dance moves. if the occasion is a birthday party, the birthday child is always the center of attraction.

Why do I need to book a specialist children's DJ? 

There is a vast difference between entertaining  adults and children, most DJ's will gasp in horror at the mention of a kids party. There are very few who are capable, have the skill , patience, tolerance or even want to keep kids happy at a party for two hours or more. They would prefer to stand there, let the kids run riot, while playing totally inappropriate music. We are often told by parents we deserve a medal for putting up with kids at parties.       

Do you do face painting or anything else?  

A lot of parents cannot believe a guy can keep kids happy for two whole hours without additional forms of entertainment. We can, when you book a magician it is usually for an hour. You don't need face painters or anything else with us, they are just a distraction, Unlike others who would welcome the break, we like the undivided attention of the kids throughout the party, our entertainment is non stop fun, 2 hours or more, from start to finish! 

Will you play my child's favorite music?   

Please email us a list of favorite music, We will then feature these during the party. We may also play the birthday child's birthday record, No1 the week they were born, if appropriate.   

 Do I need to provide anything?                                                                    

Just the venue, food and children. We organize everything, provide the entertainment, effects, sweets and other goodies, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the fun.   

What do you recommend I give to the children to eat? 

Many parents provide a buffet similar to an adult type buffet, most of this ends up in the bin!  If there is a kitchen available, please ask our advice on suitable kid's food, it will save you time and money.  

When do I serve the food?  

An ideal time is around 3/4 of an hour in to the party. Try to pick a venue where the kids eat in the same room as the disco. Unlike others, we entertain the kids while they are eating.   

Can I have the party outside?                                                                

Although this may sound a good idea, it is far from it. Unlike a magician the disco effects we use are useless outside. Then there is the weather, a marquee or covering is essential.

Can I have the party at home?

Yes, providing there is enough space for us to set up equipment, and the number of kids you are inviting. Try to clear the room as much as possible and remove breakables. 

Can some of the parents stay at the party?

Yes, provided they don't let the party kids sit on their mum's laps throughout the party! This is always a problem with shy and timid kids. We do prefer parents to go and come back after the party, even with very young children. The kids are more inclined to join in and enjoy themselves without mum there. Parents who do stay can help with the activities and assist the DJ.

Do you charge extra for anything?                    

Unlike some other children's discos, who quote what you think is a reasonable price, and then charge extra for absolutely everything. Our price is inclusive. The only additional charge is for traveling any distance. We do not charge for setting up and taking down of equipment, although this takes at least half an hour each side of the party. We are often told by parents how very reasonable our fee is for a party.    

Do you do weddings, christenings and communions?                    

There are usually a lot of children at these occasions, a children's disco is an ideal way of keeping them happy instead of letting them run riot! The adults can then get on with their drinking and chatting, which is all most of them want to do. It is pointless having an adult type disco during daylight hours, the DJ is playing to himself!  We can cater for them later if required, when they are more inclined to dance, after they have had a few drinks.    

Do you do school discos?                                                                                    

The problem booking an ordinary disco for schools is the DJ just plays music, often inappropriate, while a few girls dance, the boys sit around bored, or mess about to amuse themselves. We play at many schools on a regular basis, these can be infant or junior. Ideally it is best to have separate sessions: 5-7 years and 8-11 years.  We also offer our services at school fates.    

Do you do football presentations?

Yes, we play at a number of football club presentations; we also have lots of foote tunes!

What areas do you cover?

We are based in the midlands. We do, however, cover a wide area up to 40 miles around our home town. Ask us If  we will travel to your area, you could be lucky, especially if the party is on a weekday, or there is easy motorway or A road connection.     

Do you have any recommendations from parents?

Can you just give me a quote?

We have found that parents who use this line, as an opening question, are usually phoning round for the cheapest; They don't ask relevant questions and end up booking someone they wish they hadn't. Parents should ask themselves - ' Why is this guy cheaper than everyone else' ?  Unfortunately anyone can set up as a disco, there are no qualifications or assurances. It is a shame, a child has only one birthday a year, why ruin it for the sake of a few pounds. You would be better off taking a CD player to the party and doing it yourself, you could not do a worse job!  Has previously mentioned always book a specialist children's DJ like Russ or Malcolm.

I've heard some real horror stories from friends who have had a party, with some other entertainers, how can I be sure by booking you?

Unfortunately there are many rogue, and cowboy discos, who advertise on the web. You may have heard of some of them on TV's Watchdog and Rogue Traders. A fancy website, or advertisement in Yellow Pages, is no guarantee of professionalism or trustworthiness. Beware of discos who say they cover the country. Who do you get if anybody bothers to turn up?
